This essay is a comparative analysis of 3 of Joris Iven's films: Regen (1929), The Spanish Earth (1937), and A Tale of the Wind (1988). I give an outline of each film and read them together, finding a pull toward the elemental, as well as the development of a complex, imaginative, and playful political positioning. This is one of the first fully-fledged film analysis papers I wrote during undergrad, so some of the language and organization gets a little messy, but rereading it now I'm honestly kind of surprised by how good some of the points I make are!
Written as a final for Russ Meeuf's Film & Television Studies.
